Good-For-You Banana Smoothie

This creamy, full of flavour banana smoothie makes for a perfect breakfast. It can be whizzed up in seconds and have you out the door in a flash. It's made from wholesome and nourishing ingredients which will keep you satiated and ready to start your day with a bang.

For years now I have made a super smoothie for breakfast. It's one of my absolute non negotiables. I wouldn't be without my liquid breakfast. Smoothies are an awesome way to jam pack a whole heap of nutritious ingredients into one delicious, easy to digest "meal". With the right ingredients smoothies are just that- a meal in themselves.

My smoothie guidelines:

  • I focus on nourishing fats to keep me satiated throughout the morning (this is my main goal).

  • I always include a quality protein source.

  • I try and keep the sugars to a minimum (hard for a sweet tooth though).

  • I only use natural, real food ingredients.

  • I always throw in a super-food or two for extra nutrition

  • They must taste delicious.

I have vivid memories of my dad making his special banana smoothie and drinking it out of his dimple beer mug and sharing it with us (his three little girls at the time). I'm pretty sure it had conventional ice-cream in it but I clearly remember him using raw eggs, honey and sprinkling a dash of nutmeg on top. You almost had it dad! This recipe is a healthier take on this childhood memory.
